Description

The OEM TCU tune has certain limitations (apart from torque limiter), that prevent the holding pressure from building once 600Nm input torque is reached. The pressure simply gets hard clipped.

The result is gearbox slip in-gear (3rd, 4th) and rapid deterioration of the gearbox clutches. This happens once the torque exceeds 600Nm plus a factory safety margin. Depending on gearbox health these gearboxes start to slip at 1.1-1.3 bar boost.

It is purely a software calibration issue. Even though these gearboxes get a bad name, the internals are very strong and capable. The calibration is what lets this transmission down when performing any tuning.

This tune fully solves the gearbox pressure clipping issue and allows the gearbox to hold up to 1000 Nm of torque on a gearbox in good condition. Up to 900 Nm on gearboxes with significant mileage on them. This is not a simple torque limiter disable done by a certain three letter tuner. The complete torque to solenoid control logic is recalibrated. Additionally, shift timing is improved and the ECU is allowed to hold more boost during shifts.

The dyno graph shows an example of a completely standard car with WMI and without limiting the boost significantly in the midrange. The TCU tune has also been tested with dual GTX3071 turbos.

ECU and TCU files are provided.

The ECU file has just 2 maps modified, that you should copy to your calibration:
1. KFMIRL
2. KFMIOP
3. MDNORM (must be left stock at 800Nm, not reduced)

This is mandatory, otherwise the transmission will not see the expected torque and will not shift correctly. The provided maps will allow you to request up to 210 load and hit ~930 Nm. You can modify the last column and axis value of KFMIRL/KFMIOP to 220 if you require more.

Two types of TCU files are provided. Stock shiftpoints and higher RPM shiftpoints, so you can find the shift maps easily. The RPM limiter (after which the gearbox goes into limp mode) is increased to 7200 RPM from 7000 RPM.

Each TCU zipfile contains two files. If you are reading the gearbox by desoldering the AM29F400 chip, you will need the byteswapped files (and use byte swapping when importing/exporting from WinOLS). If you are using BDM or TSW, then the normal files.
